Coping with the side effects of chemotherapy

There are many ways to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. If you have any problems at all, tell your doctor or nurse. If you are thinking of ringing the doctor, go ahead and do it – don’t put it off. Doctors are there to help you. Although they may be hard to bear at the time, the side effects can be reduced with other medicines and they do disappear after the treatment.

If you suddenly become unwell between hospital visits, and especially if you develop a high temperature, or start shivering, phone your GP, hospital doctor or cancer nurse immediately.

CancerBACUP’s section on chemotherapy has more detailed information about chemotherapy and helpful tips for dealing with the side effects.

CancerBACUP also has sections on mitomycin, vinblastine, cisplatin and vinorelbine.
