Why have clinical trials?

Doctors are always looking for new and better ways to treat cancer and they do this by carrying out clinical trials.

Clinical trials are the only reliable way of testing new treatments for any disease. They are carried out when research has suggested that a new treatment might be better than the best currently available treatment. More detailed information about clinical trials can be found in the section about clinical trials.

It is not known whether taking part in the FOCUS trial will be helpful for you but you will be helping doctors to develop different ways of treating colorectal cancer. This will improve treatment in the future.
