FAQs – your questions answered
Do I need to be physically fit?
Peru and China are both listed as a grade C: Strenuous trek.
Grade C treks are extended mountain walks lasting up to 5 days, often at altitude and with sustained ascents and descents. There will be full support from local staff but all on the trek will carry a day pack whilst walking (approx 5kg). Walking days usually involve 6 to 8 hours on the trail and possibly longer when crossing high altitude passes. Climate and remoteness may also play a part. Previous trekking experience is not essential but you must have a good level of walking fitness and you may well have to improve yours before the trek.
In general, it is your motivation and determination that gets you to your goal. So even if you have never trekked before, a positive attitude backed up by physical preparation will see you to the top.
Where will I be staying?
You will most likely be camping and/or staying overnight in mountain huts.
Will I need special equipment?
Due to the nature of the Challenges special equipment may well be required. We will supply you with a comprehensive list of things you will need to take with you, including recommended clothing. Will I fit in?
On CancerBACUP WideWorld Challenges there is no such thing as a typical participant, which means that anyone and everyone will fit in. Participants are of all ages (although you must be 18 or over to register), from all walks of life and with different levels of fitness. What everyone does have in common, however, is the love of a challenge, the passion for adventure and the determination to do something wonderful to support the work of CancerBACUP.
How many participants will be on each Challenge?
The maximum number of participants on any Challenge will be 20, with the minimum being 10. It is the policy of VentureCo Worldwide Ltd not to take larger numbers of participants, as they believe it is important to minimise the group’s impact on the environment and local host communities.
How much of the money raised will go to CancerBACUP?
Approximately half of the minimum sponsorship money for each Challenge goes directly towards the work of CancerBACUP. The remaining amount is required to cover your flight, transfers, accommodation, meals and guide. So please remember that the more money you raise the more you will be able to help CancerBACUP.
