Clinical trials
This section contains information about cancer research trials. There is general information about why and how trials are carried out in Understanding trials in the left-hand menu.
The CancerBACUP search engine (below) means that you can search for cancer research trials available to patients in the UK and Europe.
The databases examined include the NCRN (National Cancer Research Network), Cancer Research UK and the EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer). Trials run by the pharmaceutical industry are also included. Clinical trials running in the USA are available on the NCI website.
You can either search by choosing a cancer types from the drop down menu eg. Prostate or by typing in something that interests you eg a type of treatment such as Interferon. The trials that are open (still recruiting patients) are listed first followed by those that are closed (not taking any more patients). The results of some of the closed trials may not be available as patients often have to followed for several years before the results are known. Please talk to your doctor about what trials might be suitable for you and read CancerBACUP’s information on clinical trials.
