Jane Elwing is a dedicated supporter of CancerBACUP who has raised over £180,000 for the charity through her innovative and distinctive events.
An Evening in Hoxton
10th October 2002
Guests were given the opportunity to view private art collections in Hoxton Square; the centre of Brit Art and home to some of the most renowned artists, galleries and collectors of contemporary art. This unique evening raised nearly £4,000 for CancerBACUP.
The evening began with cocktails at the home and private gallery of art dealer Dominic Berning and recent Turner Prize nominee Cathy de Monchaux. Guests then walked to the White Cube, Jay Jopling’s well known contemporary art gallery for a private viewing of the Gary Hume exhibit before finishing with drinks and canapies at the home of Penny Govett where they viewed her private collection. Penny was one of the first supporters of so many of the young British artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracy Emin.
Gainsborough and the Turner Prize
26th November 2002
Jane raised £14,500 by organising a private viewing of the Gainsborough and Turner Prize Exhibitions at Tate Britain. Colin Wiggins, Deputy Head of Education at the National Gallery gave a wonderful talk on Thomas Gainsborough.
Clay Pigeon Shoot and Family Day
6th September 2003
Jane and her committee organised a Clay Pigeon Shoot and Family Day. The day began with a clay pigeon shoot competition with on the spot prizes for exceptional shots or best improved for those who were struggling! This was followed by an American style family funfair, barbecue and barn dance. The day was a great success and raised over £40,000.

Mother and Daughter Beauty Workshop
1st March 2004
Jane raised a further £2,500 by organising a fabulous hair and make-up workshop for mothers and their daughters at the Daniel Galvin Hair Salon. Mums and daughters were given age appropriate advice from a Daniel Galvin hair stylist, the hair colourist Louise Galvin and professional make-up artist Steff Roeg.



An Evening of Wine and Art
Wednesday 3rd March 2004
The event was kindly hosted by Mr and Mrs Maleki at their stunning Mayfair home. Guests enjoyed tutored wine tasting from Mayfair Cellars and Morris and Verdin followed by a buffet dinner and a fascinating lecture on “wine in art” from Rebecca Lyons of the National Gallery.


Clay Pigeon Shoot and Family Day
Saturday 19th June 2004
Jane and her committee organised the second annual Clay Pigeon Shoot and Family Day which was a great event for the whole family. The day began with a shooting competition in the morning and there was a barbecue and family funfair in the afternoon. The author, Kathy Lette attended as our guest announcer, Lee Canderton from AA Roadwatch presented the prize ceremony and sponsors included Coca Cola, Marks and Spencers and Waitrose. The event was a great success and has raised nearly £52,500.
