Employee Benefit Initiative

More than 250,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer each year, and of this number 90,000 are of working age.  Up to half a million of the UK working population is living with some form of cancer at any one time.  Of every 1000 employees approximately 10% will be affected by cancer in their immediate circle of friends and family.  The vast majority of these employees will have inadequate information either to help them cope with their situation or to make the best choice of treatment options.

As the leading organisation in its field, CancerBACUP is offering a service to companies that will provide a dedicated helpline number for employees to access confidential information and advice from our team of specialist cancer information nurses.  This specialist service will enable CancerBACUP to reach even more people by going directly to the workplace and supporting them within their working environment.

CancerBACUP’s aim is to connect with businesses that will publicise its benefits to their employees alongside any existing employee assistance programmes.  By joining this initiative a company will not only provide an extremely valuable service to its employees but also demonstrate its commitment to and investment in the charity and its development.  The national companies – Rank, BSkyB and Next have accessed the ‘bespoke doorway’ to the CancerBACUP service for their employees, since the initiative was launched last year.

We believe that more companies will realise how beneficial a service this is in terms of coping with cancer in the workplace, not just for those who are diagnosed with the disease themselves but also in support of those members of staff who are caring for a family member or partner with cancer, and the impact that can have on colleagues, managers and the organisation as a whole.
