A host of stars took part in a special race night at Walthamstow stadium to raise over £16,000 for CancerBACUP.
The event was the repeat of two enormously successful dogs’ nights, held previously in aid of CancerBACUP. Ian Dury hosted one in March 1999 bringing along some of his mates, including Phill Jupitus and Mark Lamarr. Madness hosted another in November 1999 in which Ian managed to convince musician Paul Weller to donate his own personal, customised Lambretta scooter for auction on the night.
Ian was a committed supporter and friend of CancerBACUP. His own experience convinced him that support and information should be widely available to everyone diagnosed with cancer. He was hugely impressed by the information service offered by CancerBACUP.
Comedians Phill Jupitus, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson were joined by other celebs including Mo Mowlam to rasie cash for CancerBACUP. Members of the Blockheads and Ian’s family were also among the gusts at the sell-out evening at Walthamstow greyhound stadium.
