Self-drive vans deliver cancer message

A Loughton van with the CancerBACUP logo on the back

A hundred self-drive vans belonging to local Essex company Loughton Self Drive are helping to deliver a higher profile for cancer information charity CancerBACUP.   The vans are decorated with the charity’s logo, freephone helpline number and website address and will help advertise the charity’s services up and down the UK.

“Both my parents died of cancer and several members of our company have been affected by the disease,” says Loughton owner Jack Kennedy.   “It can be a frightening, bewildering experience and doctors don’t always use language you can understand.  The nurses on CancerBACUP’s helpline give you simple, straightforward advice and support and they have booklets on any type of cancer.  We wanted to do something to help raise awareness of such a brilliant service. After all, people are always sitting behind a white van in traffic somewhere!”

Those intrepid Eli Lilly People

As its Charity of the Year, CancerBACUP is enjoying a fun relationship with Eli Lilly, one of the leading global pharmaceutical companies. Its employees are proving themselves more than adept fundraisers. Thanks must go to all those in the company who recently ran in the London Marathon on our behalf – and still seem to be recovering! Masochistic endeavour is matched by a touch of culture with their organising of a classical concert later in the year with over 1000 people expected to attend.

Going Karaoke Krazy with the Hungry Horse

Over the next few months, the Hungry Horse will run their Karaoke Krazy competition at 80 of its pubs to raise money for CancerBACUP. So if you fancy yourself as the next Frank Sinatra or Gloria Gaynor, this is your chance to show off your vocal talent and become the national Karaoke Krazy champion. We’ll let you know what happens, so watch this space.
